Croatia's wine country runs from the green hills of the north to the islands and terraces of the Dalmatian coast. This is where our winery calls home.
Dalmatia
In southern Dalmatia, the young Komarna appellation climbs in terraces straight up from the Adriatic, close to the Pelješac peninsula. The vines get sun from the sky and reflected light from the sea, and the bora wind keeps them healthy. Here Plavac Mali, Croatia's signature red and a descendant of Zinfandel, makes rich, dark wines with ripe cherry, plum and a savoury, Mediterranean edge. Croatian wine taste profile
Plavac Mali is full-bodied and generous: dark cherries, dried figs, cocoa and spice, with firm tannins and a warm finish. Older vintages soften into smooth, layered wines.
The coast shapes the style. Long sunny days on the Dalmatian terraces give ripe fruit, while the sea breeze and rocky soils add freshness and a mineral, salty note.
