Rosch – Riesling LAURENTIUSLAY GG SELECTION 2022

Rosch Laurentiuslay GG Selection 2022 is a serious dry Riesling from the steep Leiwener Laurentiuslay vineyard on the Mosel, a site known for its slate-rich soils and naturally cool, mineral-driven wines. Made from 100% Riesling, the wine comes from carefully selected parcels within the vineyard and combines the concentration expected of a Grosses Gewächs with the freshness and precision characteristic of the Mosel. Rosch describes its Laurentiuslay GG as having a distinctly mineral, slate-driven structure, with ripe citrus and white peach supported by cool, finely articulated acidity.

The 2022 shows an elegant and focused aromatic profile of ripe lemon, white peach and green apple, complemented by fine herbal notes, slate, wet stone and subtle smoky nuances. On the palate it is dry, precise and beautifully energetic, with concentrated citrus and stone fruit framed by vibrant acidity and pronounced saline-mineral character. The texture is finely woven rather than broad or heavy, while the long, almost vibrating finish reveals the combination of slate minerality, freshness and ripe fruit that makes Laurentiuslay particularly compelling. Comparable 2022 Laurentiuslay GGs from the Mosel have similarly shown peach, citrus, mineral and spice characteristics with pronounced acidity and long finishes.

The wine's style is firmly dry and terroir-driven, with the emphasis on mineral precision rather than overt sweetness or tropical fruit. Rosch's Laurentiuslay GG is made to express the vineyard's character, and the combination of steep-site Riesling, slate soils and cool acidity gives it considerably more depth and structure than a simple young Mosel Riesling. At only four years from vintage, the 2022 is still relatively youthful, with the potential for its citrus and peach fruit to evolve into more complex notes of dried citrus, honey, herbs, smoke and flinty minerality.

The 2022 is therefore a particularly good candidate for cellaring, with its acidity and mineral structure providing the framework for substantial bottle development. It can certainly be enjoyed now for its freshness and precision, but 5–10+ years of ageing should bring additional complexity if properly stored. A refined and gastronomic dry Mosel Riesling, particularly well suited to shellfish, grilled fish, seafood, poultry, asparagus, creamy dishes and Asian cuisine, where its acidity and saline finish can cut through richer flavours while complementing delicate aromatics.
