Romagnoli KER 2019 is a traditional Marche red from the Rosso Piceno DOC, produced by Azienda Agricola Romagnoli, whose vineyards are located in the hills around Morro d’Alba in the Castelli di Jesi area. The wine is a classic blend of Sangiovese and Montepulciano, combining Sangiovese’s freshness and savoury character with the darker fruit and fuller structure of Montepulciano. The estate farms around 18 hectares across the Marche, with its wines focused on expressing the character of the local hills and soils.
KER shows an appealing profile of ripe cherry, red and dark berries and plum, complemented by subtle notes of violet, herbs, spice and earthy nuances. On the palate it is dry, medium- to full-bodied and pleasantly generous, with juicy fruit supported by lively acidity and well-balanced tannins. The Montepulciano brings colour, depth and darker-fruit richness, while Sangiovese contributes freshness and a savoury backbone, resulting in a wine that is substantial without becoming heavy.
The style is deliberately straightforward, fresh and gastronomic, rather than heavily influenced by oak. KER is therefore a particularly versatile expression of Rosso Piceno, offering good fruit intensity and structure while remaining approachable. At around seven years from vintage, the 2019 should now have moved beyond its youthful fruitiness towards greater savoury, earthy and spicy complexity, while retaining enough acidity to keep the wine energetic.
A classic, food-friendly Marche red, KER is particularly well suited to pasta with rich tomato or meat sauces, grilled and roasted meats, poultry, charcuterie and moderately aged cheeses. Its combination of ripe fruit, freshness and moderate tannic grip also makes it an excellent everyday alternative to the more powerful Montepulciano-based reds of neighbouring Abruzzo.
