Castell Hohnart Riesling 2022

Castell Hohnart Riesling 2022 is a distinguished German white wine made from 100% Riesling from the Hohnart monopole vineyard in Castell, Franconia, classified as VDP. Erste Lage. The warm, sunny south-facing site, with its clay-rich gypsum keuper soils, produces a Riesling with both ripe fruit and pronounced mineral character.

It features aromas of mirabelle plum, apricot, delicate herbs, and subtle spice, with a dry, lively, and finely balanced palate. Vibrant acidity provides freshness and tension, while spontaneous fermentation and one year of ageing on the lees in Castell oak barrels add texture and depth. With its combination of ripe stone fruit, herbal complexity, mineral character, and persistent finish, this is a serious and age-worthy Franconian Riesling, with a recommended maturity window of around 5–10 years.
