20% OFF – Now only S$28 (UP: S$35)! Elegant, Fruity and Beautifully Mature Dolcetto from Piedmont – A Classic Italian Red, Ready to Enjoy!
Carlo Giacosa Langhe Dolcetto 2019 is a traditional and characterful Piedmontese red wine, made from 100% Dolcetto, one of the Langhe region's most beloved indigenous grape varieties. Produced by the family-owned Carlo Giacosa winery in Barbaresco, this wine offers a delightful alternative to the estate's more powerful Nebbiolo and Barbaresco wines. Dolcetto is prized for its generous fruit, naturally soft acidity and pleasantly savoury, sometimes almond-like finish, making it one of Piedmont's most versatile food wines.
The 2019 offers an attractive bouquet of ripe black cherries, dark plums, blackberries and red berries, complemented by delicate notes of violet, dried herbs, liquorice and subtle earthy spice. On the palate, it is dry, medium-bodied and wonderfully approachable, combining juicy dark fruit with moderate acidity, gentle tannins and a characteristic slightly bitter almond finish. Compared with Nebbiolo, Dolcetto is generally rounder, softer and less tannic, while retaining the distinctive savoury character of traditional Piedmontese reds.
The 2019 vintage was generally favourable for Piedmont, producing wines with good fruit concentration and structure. Dolcetto is traditionally made to preserve its fresh fruit character rather than requiring prolonged ageing. Its appeal lies in the balance between generous fruit, freshness and an uncomplicated, food-friendly personality.
Now fully mature – ready to enjoy! At seven years old in 2026, this Dolcetto is well beyond the youthful stage at which the variety is most commonly enjoyed. If carefully stored, it may now display attractive mature nuances of dried cherry, plum, forest floor, leather, herbs and earthy spice, alongside its remaining fruit character. Its tannins should have softened considerably, giving the wine a rounded and approachable texture.
Unlike Carlo Giacosa's age-worthy Barbaresco wines, Dolcetto is not generally intended for extended cellaring. We therefore recommend enjoying this 2019 vintage now rather than keeping it for many more years. Bottle condition and storage history will be particularly important for a Dolcetto of this age.
A mature, traditional Piedmontese Dolcetto, now available at 20% OFF – just S$28 instead of S$35! An attractive opportunity for lovers of classic Italian reds to explore a fully developed expression of one of Piedmont's most food-friendly grape varieties.
