Pinot Noir AVANTGARDE 2021 is a serious and elegant German Pinot Noir from the Pfalz, made from Spätburgunder grown on heavy loess-loam soils. The grapes undergo a 14-day open-top maceration and fermentation, followed by malolactic fermentation in barriques and an extended 16 months of maturation in barrique, before spending a further two months in stainless steel. This patient élevage gives the wine depth, silky texture and impressive structure while allowing the character of Pinot Noir to remain at the centre.

The bouquet opens with preserved cherries, ripe Morello cherries and subtle leather, becoming increasingly complex with air. On the palate, there is an abundance of ripe cherry fruit supported by fresh, well-integrated acidity and restrained tannins. The texture is silky and refined, yet the wine has plenty of depth, juicy concentration and a long, dry finish. Elegant but with a savoury, substantial character, it has the confidence and composure of a mature Pinot Noir. This is a wine that benefits from being given some time in the glass before drinking.

With its combination of fruit, structure and mature savoury notes, Pinot Noir AVANTGARDE is an excellent partner for roast goose, duck and game, as well as richer autumn and winter dishes. It also works beautifully with polenta or bread dumplings. A wine with the substance to accompany a traditional Martin’s goose, yet refined enough to enjoy on its own.
