Antonelli – Sagrantino di Montefalco PASSITO 2014
Sweet red desert wine, unique!
This stunning red sweet desert wine is made from 100% Sagrantino since 1979 by the Antonelli family.
Tasting Notes
Rich ruby tending towards garnet in colour. Rich and complex to the nose, with notes of cherries, wild berry jam, candied citrus peel and spices. To the taste it’s an amazing wine, where it begins sweet and then gives way to a fresh finish with an aromatic persistence to the nose.
Vinification
Grapes are handpicked in the second week of October and placed in single layers in crates. Bunches that have received the most sun are selected as they are more suitable for this wine. The grapes are dried naturally on cane trellises for 75-90 days. Vinification is done extremely carefully by gravity, using maceration and fermentation in contact with the skins for 8 days at a temperatures of 25°C. Malolactic fermentation takes place. The wine clarifies spontaneously with no need for filtration. The passito is aged in 10 hL oak barrels for 15 months. Assemblage and clarification occurs in cement vats for 3 months, follwed by bottle ageing for 12 months.
Colour
Deep, rich ruby red color towards garnet as it ages. Due to the passito (dried grape) method, the wine is intensely colored, having a brilliant, dense, and profound ruby hue with garnet reflections.
Food Pairing
It can be enjoyed with red fruit tarts, biscuits, gianduja chocolate and mature cheeses.
