A lifelong passion for authentic wines and the people behind them.

Dr. Hannes Hentze is the founder of Wine Provision Shop, a Singapore-based wine importer built on more than three decades of exploring Europe’s lesser-known wine regions and forming lasting relationships with the people who produce them.

Hannes grew up among the vineyards of Franconia in northern Bavaria, where he developed an early appreciation for wine, particularly the region’s distinctive Silvaner. While studying in Konstanz in the 1990s, he travelled extensively through Italy, Corsica and Croatia, discovering indigenous grape varieties, family-run vineyards and wines deeply connected to their place of origin. These experiences shaped the way he continues to approach wine today.

For more than 30 years, Hannes has sought out authentic, characterful wines that are often overlooked outside their home regions. His long-standing interest in European wine culture has been influenced by publications such as MERUM, as well as personal friendships with growers, winemakers and wine specialists across Europe.

Professionally, Hannes trained as a translational scientist and biotechnology executive, earning a PhD in Biochemical Pharmacology and later an Executive MBA from INSEAD. He moved to Singapore in 2000, where he continues to live with his family.

Wine Provision Shop grew naturally from this lifelong passion. Many of the producers represented today are people Hannes has come to know personally through years of visits and conversations. He selects wines not only for their quality, but for the integrity of the people behind them, their craftsmanship and their commitment to preserving regional traditions.

For Hannes, wine has always been about more than what is in the bottle. It is about people, place, food and conversation—and the pleasure of discovering something genuinely distinctive and sharing it with others.
